Does TMS Keep Working Years After Treatment? Study shows yes...

A Multisite, Naturalistic, Observational Study of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for Patients With Pharmacoresistant Major Depressive Disorder: Durability of Benefit Over a 1-Year Follow-Up Period...

This is the largest observational study of clinical outcomes with TMS in routine clinical practice settings, and was designed to assess the acute and long-term effectiveness of NeuroStar TMS Therapy in adult patients with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) who have failed to benefit from prior treatment with antidepressant medications. The results in this most recent report show that a substantial majority of depression patients who benefited from acute treatment with NeuroStar TMS Therapy maintained that benefit through one full year of follow-up. Maintaining durability of benefit over the longer term in patients with treatment resistant depression is a major clinical challenge. These data suggest a level of durability in longer term outcome that is not typical of many other treatment options used in clinical management of patients with pharmacoresistant forms of major depression.
